I'm a passionate functional nutritionist, the proud wife of a cancer survivor, a loving doggy mommy, and a recovering perfectionist!
Six years ago, I was literally drowning in a sea of health issues. I was newly diagnosed with debilitating anxiety and panic attacks and I had spent my entire life dealing with digestive problems, allergies, eczema, acne, chronic infections, low energy, and musculoskeletal pain. Needless to say, I was pretty freaking miserable! But when I discovered nutrition in 2013 and began changing my diet, I started experiencing an amazing turnaround in my health. Over the next two years (with just my own personal research and a boatload of determination), I was able to heal completely from anxiety, acne, allergies, and eczema, and I no longer suffered from recurrent infections. I was still struggling with digestive issues, muscle and joint pain, and low energy, but I was miles away from where I started!
When my husband, Dan, and I started trying to get pregnant in 2015, we thought it would be a short and sweet process. We were so wrong! My cycle and hormones were a complete mess and, after more than a year of trying with absolutely no success, I began to realize that my remaining health issues and my fertility struggles were connected. I knew that if I wanted to have a baby naturally, I had to dig deeper into my symptoms and get to the root cause of why I couldn't conceive. So we put our parenthood dreams on hold and I got busy researching! Right around the same time, I discovered the Nutritional Therapy Association and I decided to enroll in their practitioner training program. I was determined to find the missing pieces of my own health and fertility puzzle and I also wanted to learn how I could help others find their answers.
Becoming an NTP completely changed the way I thought about health. For the first time in my life, I felt empowered instead of hopeless when it came to my body. The knowledge I gained from my training allowed me to finally start getting to the root cause of all my issues. With the right testing, I was diagnosed with multiple gut infections, an autoimmune condition (Hashimoto's thyroiditis), hormone imbalances, and adrenal dysfunction, and I began a major healing journey. At essentially the same time, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to remove a tumor on his leg. Needless to say, we've both been dealt a pretty rough hand! But today we've completely turned our health around using the same tools and strategies I now use with my clients. Amazing results ARE possible and you CAN get better. You just need the right guidance and support.
It's absolutely not normal to feel like garbage all the time! "Getting older" isn't synonymous with being exhausted, achy, depressed, foggy, bloated, or sick. Even having a diagnosed chronic condition doesn't mean that you're destined to live your life at war with your body. I'll let you in on a little secret that it took me way too long to learn on my own: you have so much power over your own health. When you give your body what it needs to thrive and ditch the things that weigh it down and make it sick, it heals!
Mainstream medicine mostly treats symptoms. And it's just not very good at uncovering and fixing the actual underlying problems behind those symptoms. Thankfully, though, it's not the only option! A functional approach to health focuses on restoring balance to your body through diet, lifestyle, and natural therapies. It looks at you as a whole person instead of just a collection of systems that each have to be addressed with a separate medical specialty. And it also puts YOU in the driver's seat when it comes to your own health and wellness!
I know why you're here. You want REAL answers! You're sick of struggling to figure your health issues out on your own and you're tired of never getting to the bottom of it with your doctor. You want to know that the steps you're taking to improve your health will actually help you feel better instead of just leaving you stressed out, frustrated, and still sick. So take a step forward and try something different!
